FreeBSD on the Lenovo T550 - Reloaded

Posted on November 9, 2016

As I mentioned in my previous blogpost, I’ve got a Lenovo T550. After updating my FreeBSD installation to 11-CURRENT, I even got working WiFi. And due to the MTRR hack I mentioned in the previous post, I even got usable graphics. Meanwhile, hannes pointed me to SCFB, which is probably a good replacement for my Vesa-based setup.

My only problem was: my colleagues laughed at me I was less productive because I didn’t have a dual screen setup anymore. Now this changed. I’ve just installed the 12-CURRENT branch from github and was more than happy to see that the Intel driver now supports Broadwell systems (well, at least it supprts my system). If you want to give it a try, just check out the drm-next-4.7 branch of the above repository and build/install kernel and world. After loading i915kms.ko, everything worked flawlessly for me.

That’s it, have fun :)
